The "CIL"experience

Hey..this is my CIL PI Experience..GD topic was “Coal industry as the backbone of Indian economy”.Said a lot of crap...mostly what they'd said in the pre placement presentation.Actually it was more like an extempore as each person spoke only once. They shortlisted 7 out of about 30 who sat for the company. The interviewing panel consisted of about 6 people, who sat across the oval table.
I1: Why do you want to join CIL?A:Sir it is a navratna company and the largest employer of the nation in terms of manpower...*also
said something about serving the country and growth opportunities at CIL)
I2(worst interviewer of the lot):What is your favourite subject
A: Sir manufacturing Engg
I2: What is MIG welding
Said something which was about 70 correct but screwed up the full form of MIG
I2(shaking head):ok ok...what is friction stir welding
again answered but he was not satisfied with the word "probe" that I used for the third party

The "CIL" experience contd...

I2: How will you design a weld joint?
A:Sir as in I,J U
I2:no
A:Sir then we will decide whether to go for lap joint or butt joint
I2 shakes head
I3 steps in:assume any values and then do it
I took a flange having axial load and calculated the max stress and the thickness of weld joint reqd.
I2 was still not pleased but the rest seemed happy.
I4:How do you test weld joint? This was my high time as I explained destructive and non destructive tests v well and answered all cross queries.
I5:What is hysteresis?I answered. Then he asked about causes of hysteresis and curve which too I answered
I5:What are electromechanical devices?
I cited a few examples, but wasn't very confident.
I5:What is Lenz's law and Faradays law
Again I answered
I6(HR guy):What are the machines used in a coal mine
A:Sir cranes conveyors compressors...
I6: Have you ever been to a coal mine?
A No, I never got the opportunity.
I6:You have never seen dumpers shovels, etc
A:No ,Sir
I1:Ok Mr sunny..thank you..you may go now

she aint a tart

How much does it cost? i asked
the reply was,"she aint a tart, U know".
This is how much ferrari fans adore the new ferrari 458 itallia. Not only is it the most modern and technologically advanced ferrari ever, but also a sculpted masterpiece. The car has an extremely aerodynamic design, producing a downforce of 140 kg at 124 miles per hour (200 km/h), and the car's interior design has inputs from former Ferrari Formula 1 driver Michael Schumaker.
The 458 Italia’s Pininfarina styling gives the car a look that is both beautiful to behold as well as highly aerodynamic. Sharp edges, defining bulges and sporty, crisp lines mark the new model which takes its styling cues from the now retired one million dollar Ferrari Enzo F1 racer. The Ferrari 458 Italia officially replaces the aged and heavier Ferrari 430, offering a larger and more powerful engine than its predecessor, yet realizing important fuel economy improvements while emitting fewer emissions.
The engine itself is an engineering achievement and represents Ferrari’s first attempt to mount a direct injection engine in the mid-rear section of the car. An exhilarating, powerful and familiar growl emerges from the engine the moment it kicks on, thundering through the entire frame and out through the exhaust’s triple tip rear tailpipes. Producing 562 horsepower with 398 pound-feet of torque, the engine harmonizes with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, enabling the 458 Italia to travel from zero to sixty in about 3.3 seconds, while topping out at just over two hundred miles per hour.
The new Ferrari 458 Italia is a synthesis of style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology, characteristics for which Italy as a nation is well-known.And she sure is a hottie, but she aint a tart

Play it safe

The main reason that most people say "play it safe" is out of fear. This goes for anything, be it career, relationships, money ,sports.Occasionally I would wonder how what we studied was applicable, but keep it to myself.
It is the fear of ostracism that causes people to conform and not question commonly accepted opinions or popular trends. "Study hard." "Become a doctor or an engineer." "Get a safe and secure job." "If you don't get good grades, you will not do well in the REAL world". When we are told to follow set procedures and not deviate from rules, we comply. our inclination towards following the herd is caused by the fear of ostracism, the fear of standing out, the fear of criticism, the fear of ridicule, the fear of being an outcast. The fear of being different prevent most people from seeking new ways to solve their problems.
Once in a while, we all need to look in the mirror and be true to our inner wisdom rather than our fears.
